The Federal Finance Administration has determined the cantons' equalization payments for 2025. Overall, they are up by CHF 284 million, or 4.8%, year on year, to reach a total of CHF 6.2 billion. The Confederation is to bear CHF 4.2 billion of this amount. The sharp rise in equalization payments is due to the substantial growth in resource equalization, which has to be allocated more funds due primarily to the widening disparities. The cantons of Zug, Schwyz and Basel Stadt have the biggest increase in the resource index. The indices of the cantons of Neuchâtel, Zurich and St Gallen are down the most. The calculations will be submitted to the cantons for their comments.
