Topics at a glance

The Federal Finance Administration has a wide range of activities. It develops the basis for fiscal policy, organises fiscal equalization, compiles financial statistics and manages federal debt.

Financial policy, foundations

Stable and sustainable public finances are based on clear rules and effective steering instruments. These include guidelines and budget models, implementation of the debt brake, expenditure and receipt controls, and subsidy reviews.

Financial statistics at a glance

Financial statistics comprise data, reports and analyses on Switzerland's public finances – i.e. those of the Confederation, cantons, municipalities and social security funds.

Fiscal equalization at a glance

The FFA is responsible for national fiscal equalization. It calculates the equalization payments between the cantons, publishes the annual figures, develops the basis and prepares efficacy reports.

Funding, asset and liability management

The Confederation ensures that it can meet its payment obligations and finances long-term investments via money and capital markets – supplemented by active management of liquidity, foreign exchange, risk and financial interests.

Monetary and currency system

The Swiss National Bank ensures the stability of the Swiss currency and the provision of the economy with liquidity – based on legal frameworks and agreements with the Federal Department of Finance.

Projects

The FFA also deals with longer-term projects. In the past few years, we were particularly involved in the climate and energy incentive system.
