Corporate governance at a glance

The Confederation's corporate governance defines the principles for the strategic management of independent entities such as Swisscom, Swiss Post and SBB. It sets out responsibilities and objectives, and ensures reporting to Parliament and the public.

Principles Corporate Governance

The Confederation's corporate governance regulates the steering and monitoring of outsourced federal tasks performed by legally independent enterprises and institutions. In 2006, the Federal Council defined joint principles; these have since been refined.

Enterprises and institutions

The Confederation has a financial interest in 22 enterprises and institutions which, although not part of the central Federal Administration, are nonetheless controlled by the Confederation or were established as legal entities by it. These include market-oriented service providers such as Swisscom and RUAG, monopolistic suppliers such as Swiss Post and SBB, and supervisory bodies such as FINMA and ENSI. The Federal Council is responsible for strategic steering based on the federal corporate governance principles.
